Broad Vista Music "The job of the artist is always to deepen the mystery." Francis Bacon |
| Broad Vista Music has been created as an
avenue to express in soundworlds what we see and feel in the vistas we encounter in our
adventures around the state of California and our visits with the musical shamen in the
deserts of the west. Our newest release, Passing Strange, is a collaboration of 7 artists: Biff Johnson, Kirk Watson, David Hastings, Brian Parnham, Mike Gustafson, John Pemble and Jeff Karsin. Passing Strange was released in July 2001. We are pleased to announce the release of Solo Contenda, by David Hastings. His second CD continues in the energetic direction of his first release, Electric Cafe. Both CD's contain over 70 minutes of music. Biff took another journey into the southwest in June of '98 to do final recording and assembly of his current CD,"Mirage at the Crossroads". Again, it was co-produced by Steve Roach. It contains 9 cuts with 72 minutes of music including a 15 minute epic piece, "A Road from Somewhere," featuring Steve Roach. Somewhat more aggressive and intense than "Reading the Bones," it has the groove factor taking a more active role on some tracks. And, of course, the Broad Vista signature harmonic textures are in full bloom for this release, also. Our premire release, Reading the Bones, featured interesting soundworlds in the ambient/electronic genre. Co-produced by Steve Roach, the music follows in the footsteps of the great masters of electronic soundscape music: i.e. Roach-Rich-Obmana-Schutze-Parsons-OHearn-Eno. The use of folk-flutes and percussion gives an organic quality to the dark, mysterious sounds of the electronic palette. Broad Vista is the brainstorm of Biff Johnson (b. 1951) who culls his inspiration from the granitic spires of the Sierra Nevada range of light and the wide open spaces of the great central valley of California. Biff has been working in the electronic music field since the mid-sixties when he built his first cigar box theremin. He has continued to assimilate new sounds into his work by including use of sampler, sequencer, and today's looping techniques.. Broad Vista brings a broader musical vista to those listeners interested in expanding their own musical vistas. As the ritual continues, we invite the mystery and imagination of music.
